Brigham City Temple

Tuesday the Brigham City LDS Temple was slated to have the Angel Moroni statue placed on the front spire. It was supposed to occur at 12 o'clock noon. We arrived about 11:30 a.m. and it was raining very hard. We stood around under umbrellas. I was surprised about how fun it was. Everyone was in such a good mood. There was a crowd of between 5 and 7 thousand there, and the rain did not seem to dampen anyone's spirits. There were lots of people on the lawn across the street on the tabernacle lawn, and the speakers in the tabernacle were blasting out hymns. Monday night we had the missionaries over for dinner (I need to add a story about that). Tyson and Kaden kept seeing loads of missionaries there and were scoping out the scene for the ones that had dinner with us. In front of the temple the chain link fence has green slats through it so that you don't see all of the construction mess. They had construction guys standing on top of things looking over the fences instructing people to stay off the fences. I thought it was really cute that when I saw a young man with Down's Syndrome walk by that you could tell was in awe of the construction workers, the workers stopped what they were doing and chatted and smiled at the young man. They weren't too busy for him. Greg took off for little while to do some interviews and then took the boys around back to a VIP viewing area where they could see the statue up close. I guess the Angel Moroni statue is about 12 feet tall and weighs close to 400 pounds! Kaden was amazed with its size. The rain stopped right about noon, but then the winds picked up. They started to try and lift the statue, but couldn't place it at first because of the swaying. It was closer to 2:00 before the winds died down and the statue could be placed on top of the temple. We actually ran and ate lunch and then came back. Tyson found some kids and they were all floating their shoes down the canal. It has been quite a momentous time seeing a temple so close to our home being built. We love driving down the interstate now and seeing the change in the Brigham City skyline. As I said, Monday night we had the missionaries over for dinner because I had signed up in Relief Society. We were to have them over from 5 to 6:00. Tyson didn't want to be home. He and some of the neighborhood boys were planning on going down the hill across the street and playing in the river. The missionaries arrived and we started the meal (and by the way...boy can missionaries put away a lot of food!). Tyson kept asking them during the meal if they needed to leave yet.....not a very subtle boy. They found out what his plans were, and then started teasing him about it. After we all ate, they asked if they could share a thought with us, and the one missionary asked Ty to go and retrieve his scriptures for him. Tyson looked like he was going to die. He asked the missionary if it wasn't time for them to leave yet. (Yes, we are working on his manners.) The missionary just cracked up and proceeded to give a nice short lesson. They were really cute with our boys and asked questions about what they were interested in. We did find the missionaries in Brigham, and they remembered the boys' names and came over and talked to them. What great examples they are! I really appreciate great examples in our lives.
