Kiwannas Dinner

On Wednesday night, Greg had a Kiwanna's Dinner and Ceremony where they swear in the new officers. Greg is going to be the president elect this next year, so obviously we needed to attend. It was a short and sweet meeting with a delicious dinner (great combination)! After the dinner we headed home. We had only been gone about an hour and a half. We had rented the movie "The Karate Kid" for the boys to watch while we were gone. When we got home it was dark outside (about 8:30). We were walking up the front walk...avoiding the grass because it had rained and I was wearing heels, when Greg got his great idea. He said to me, "Let's scare the kids!" And, being the idiot I am, I said, "OK." I hid behind the front pillar and Greg ran up to the door and pounded on it and rang the doorbell, then ran around the side of the house to hide. We were both giggling, waiting for the kids to fling open the door. We were sure they would think it was one of their friends and that they would come out to find them. Then, Greg's plan was to jump out and scare them, while taking a quick picture since he had the camera all ready. We waited and waited. No response. I whispered to Greg and asked if he had truly rang the doorbell. He thought he had, but we thought maybe they didn't hear because of the movie. So, he snuck back up the stairs, pounded again and rang the bell. This time, Kaden came on the intercom saying, "Hello....hello..." We didn't respond. We still thought it was funny, and we didn't think he sounded scared. About that time Greg was thinking he would sneak around the back of the house. I saw lights on a van making its way down our street. I recognized that it was our neighbor, Heather Dahle. I came out from behind the pillar to go and talk to her. Well, I guess Kaden was peering through a slit in the living room blinds. When he saw me come out, he flung open the door and yelled, "It was you mom!" and then burst into tears. Tyson started crying too and then proceeded to tell us how scared they were! I felt about 2 inches high. It as supposed to be funny....but was not! I guess they called Heather and she was coming to rescue them! I am just glad they didn't dial 911! Wouldn't have that been fun to try and explain to a police officer? Luckily, Heather laughed, and I don't think she called child services on our rotten parenting skills! I told Greg I really shouldn't listen to his "fun" ideas! I think the boys think the situation is funnier today than they did last night. I guess if next time we need to go somewhere and the boys won't stay alone, we will be even more sorry!

I think it is great you are keeping your children on their toes. It is also great you have nice neighbors they can call when things scare them Ü

HAHA!! Don't you just love those moments. Kids sure know how to keep us in our places. And I am learning not to listen to my husband either.

I have to say....this has totally made me laugh so hard I'm crying. Greg seems to enjoy scaring children to death. I remember the night he came down to our house with that stupid head lamp on.
