Friday June 26th!

Before I start our post for today....let me do a shout out to my brother, Doug, who is 50 years old today! Wow! I called to check on him just to make sure he is still alive and all! Happy Birthday big bro!
Here are Kaden and Tyson in front of the Metro Washington Park Zoo in Portland, Oregon.
Today we started out the day by visiting with Greg's Aunt Rosie. She is a really fun lady. We realized the boys were not going to be able to sit still for long with all the car riding we have been doing, so we left Greg to do family research, and we ventured off to the zoo. I just want to tell you, that was really brave of me! Portland, OR is one of the most confusing cities I have ever driven in! It took us about a half an hour to drive to the zoo, and then we had to park about 5 miles away (not kidding here!). The parking at the zoo was full, the regular shuttle area for the zoo was full, so you had to take an interstate quite a ways away, park in a church parking lot, and catch a shuttle bus to the zoo. It was crazy!

The zoo was really nice. It was fun, in part because all the areas were so lush and green, you really couldn't tell what was going to be coming next because of all the trees and shrubbery. You felt like you were actually in other areas of the world. There were a lot of exhibits that allowed you to look at the animal above ground, and then again below water (like the polar bears, penguins, seals, alligators, etc.). It was really interesting to see how they move under water. The elephant area was really neat. You could see the elephants out in a yard, and then go into a building and have one right up next to you so you could see how HUGE they are. They also had a baby elephant that was really cute.

There were lots of fun things besides the animals themselves to see. They had a lot of exhibits teaching about animals. They had a lot of areas with workers holding different animals out for the kids to touch. In the insect area, both the boys were able to pet a cockroach. Believe me....I took pictures, because I couldn't believe they would actually do it! Funny side note.....Tyson and Kaden went into a restroom....Kaden comes running out laughing hysterically.....He tells me, "Tyson got peed on!" A minute or two later out comes Tyson furiously rubbing a paper towel on his arm. I guess a little boy who was about 4 or so, turned to talk to Tyson mid-stream and caught him on the arm! Tyson did wash good with soap though! It was hilarious! Tyson said he was nice and helped the kid get paper towels after they both washed their hands. The zoo was a fun day. I am glad the two boys still like to visit zoos with me (Greg is good at coming up with something else to do when I want to visit one!).
Aunt Rosie, her son, Garth, Greg, Sherri, Tyson and Kaden
Greg said he heard lots of great stories from Aunt Rosie. He scanned a bunch of pictures and documents, and borrowed some others to take home to scan. Tyson thinks Garth is the greatest. He kept telling us tonight how funny he thinks he is. Rosie has a great garden. When we saw it, it made me realize again how pitiful our poor little garden is looking! When we get home, we will have to make sure and give it some TLC.

You can always take Kellen to the zoo with you. I'm sure he would be much happier there than Lagoon. Too funny about Tyson, but it doesn't surprise me that he so kindly helped the little boy.
