Family Home Evening
This past Monday was the first night Tyson hasn't had a basketball game for a long time. His team had a bye, so we got to have a real family home evening for a change. Greg called a widow in our ward, Sister Jill Cannon, to see if we could come and visit. Her husband, Brother Owen Cannon, died about a year ago. He was an electrician, but he trained horses and chariot raced as a hobby. One of the horses he trained for his daughter to barrel race ended up growing too large for her to ride easily. He ended up selling it to a movie company. The horse was used by John Wayne in a few of his movies. The basement of their home is almost like a museum. There are pictures of John Wayne on the horse that he sent to them. There are all sorts of trophies, bridles, pictures, etc. There is even a rack that has chaps that John Wayne used on it. She told us that they have letters that John Wayne wrote to them, but her kids put them in a safe deposit box. It was pretty interesting. We sat and visited for a while. We found out she worked at the high school for 30+ years as a secretary. She said she retired about 20 years ago. I hope when I get to be that age I am still so active, kind, and fun to visit with. It was a great family home evening.

That's a pretty neat family home evening. Sounds like you had a great time. I'll bet Sis. Cannon did too!
