Zion's Trip

While hiking is Zion's Park we saw this squirrel on the side of the trail. It must be really used to people coming along, because it let Greg right up close for a picture. This is the four of us on the trail to the Emerald Pools. Tyson was claiming he was going to throw his hat over the ledge, so I had stolen it from him and told him it was mine. Needless to say, he didn't take me too seriously, and he got it back quickly. On the way down to the Emerald Pools, there was water cascading over onto the walkway, and it was actually quite cold! It felt good after the hot hike though. This shot of Greg and I and of the four of us were all taken at the Weeping Rock. We hiked up there and there was this cool rock formation. I guess the sandstone walk is very porous, and after it gets through all the layers of sandstone, when it finally hits the layer of shale, it travels horizontally to come out of the side of the rock. They said geologists estimate it takes about 1200 years for the water to make the journey. So, we were being hit with 1200 year old water in these pictures! Lots of beautiful scenery in Zion's Park. We had a lot of fun. We stopped for this photo opportunity right before we got to the mile long tunnel through the mountains. The kids were pretty impressed with driving though that long of a tunnel. Friday night after we got to Kanab, we met at one of the publisher's houses for dinner. The kids found some friends to hang out with, and we ate outside. It was a pretty spot to have dinner.
