Last weekend was a ton of fun. On Friday night I got to go and listen to my amazing cousin Debbie Butte sing in the Ogden park as part of the city's Christmas festivities. Saturday morning, my parents came to our house. They had never seen where Jayson and Kris lived, and wanted to check out their places. My mom has been having some health issues with her neck, so I was amazed that she did so well traveling all day with us. We first drove to Erda to see Dave, Kris, and their girls along with the ten girls that live with them. It was fun to see all of their
Christmas decorations. Kaden talked Kris into letting us take Madison and Makenzie home with us. Kris and Dave were working and had to go and decorate their church for a ward party that night that they were in charge of. My parents got to meet the ten girls and see the house. We next went to South Salt Lake and had lunch with Kassi (Jayson was working). Greg, Kaden, and Tyson took off for a baseball practice. My mom and Dad and the little girls then drove over to Jay and Kassi's house for mom and dad to get to see it. As we were touring the house, Makenzie disappeared for a few minutes. I had Maddie go and check on her. She came back upstairs and said the Kenz was playing with some plastic. I figured she had gotten into a tupperware drawer or something, and didn't worry about it. We started downstairs a minute or so later, and found out that Kenz had opened up a bunch of presents from under the tree! I was supposed to be the one watching her, so I felt kind of guilty when we left a few minutes later and knew that Kassi was going to have to re-wrap gifts. Luckily, Kassi is such a great sport and was laughing about it. We then drove to Ogden, where Ryan, Kristen and their two kids met up with us to watch Tyson play basketball. After the game, we went out to eat in Ogden and then headed home. The boys ditched Greg and I, but Kenz and Kami decided to ride home with Grandpa and Grandma. They are so funny to listen to as you drive. Jayson and Kassi met up with us at home. They all spent the night, and then Sunday morning we got up and had breakfast. A huge rummy card game then ensued. Tyson was playing with the little kids, and he tends to like to tease Madison, I think because he can get such a rise out of her. So, Maddie ended up helping me in the kitchen frost sugar cookies. I am not sure if she got more frosting on the cookies or herself. Dave and Kristen came a little later for our party. I love getting together with everyone. We started out with the story of Christmas. Tyson was a shepherd, Madison and Carter were Mary and Joseph. I was going to dress the two little ones up as angels this year, but Kami didn't like the idea, and when I started dressing Kenz, she decided her dress she had on was prettier than the plain white one I was going to have her wear, and then decided not to dress up. Too funny! After the Christmas story, it was time for presents. I love watching the excitement on the grandkids' faces as they open gifts. Christmas is meant for little ones! I was kind of a dork and got choked up when we gave our older kids their final presents. The high school was doing a fund raiser where you can buy bricks with engravings on them that will pave a path to the football field. We bought each of the big kids a brick with their name and graduating year on it. It is so that they will know that there will always be a part of them at home in the Bear River Valley. I don't know why I got so choked up. I guess because I miss having them all closer. We are very fortunate that they all live as close as they do, but times sure change when they get older and have families of their own. This year my parents and our big kids spoiled Greg and I WAY too much! My parents think we sometimes over-do for Christmas, but they are definitely who we get that habit from! Our married kids all went in and did the 12 days of Christmas in presents for Greg and I.
The first card read:
On the first day of Christmas, my family gave to me, a dinner out, together, so we won't be lonely. Along with the card they gave us a gift card to the Olive Garden.
The second card read:
Two turtle doves? That's what you will be. Sit together, watch a movie, and be all snuggly! Then they gave us a gift card to the movie theater.
The third card read:
Hens are messy, but boys are too. Here is some TP to help clean up the poo. They then gave us a huge package of toilet paper that each roll was the size of 3 regular rolls.
The fourth card read:
These four sure sound like calling birds, here are some pictures of those cute little turds! They then gave us a photo of the four grandkids that they took at Thanksgiving. The two little ones did not want their pictures taken and are screaming in the photo.
The fifth card read:
Five golden kids is what five should stand for. We are so much fun to be around and never a bore! We then got new photos of all the kiddos for my front entryway. The 11x14 that Jayson and Kassi had printed of themselves is totally a goofy shot. And of course, they are going to be smack dab in the middle of the wall. They are such funny kids.
The sixth card read:
You'll be like six geese a laying on a couch, drinking six Dews and Sobes, never being a grouch. They then gave us six of each of our favorite drinks.
The seventh card read:
Go swimming like those seven swans in your tub! You have the stuff you need. Rub a dub dub! Then they gave us a package that had different shower gels and lotions along with floaty things and scrubbers.
The eighth card read:
Eight maids a milking? That's a lot of work! How about some milk duds? Not that we want to shirk! And of course, for that present we got boxes of milk duds.
The ninth card read:
We know how you'd like dancing ladies, Dad. But, we got you slippers instead. Hey, don't be sad! The funny part about this was as soon as we said nine, Greg had commented....ooh! Ladies dancing come next! Well, luckily they gave us both slippers instead.
The tenth card read:
The Lord gives us music so our hearts will leap. Joy will fill you up in one big heap! They then gave us a CD of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
The eleventh card read:
The eleven pipers ate up all your dessert. So, here is some ice cream. Don't spill it on your shirt! They then gave us a box of ice cream sandwiches. It was a box of 12....but mysteriously one was missing so there were eleven.
The twelfth card read:
Twelve months will drum up many a good memory. We hope that this will be a good summary. We love you guys so much! Merry Christmas! In this gift we received a new calendar that was made with pictures of our family for each month, and also had little picture of us all on our birthdays and anniversaries.
As you can see, our kids are amazing. We sure do love having our family around. We love them so much!
