First thing Saturday morning, we headed to the subway to buy a metro pass and figure out the transit system. Luckily we had Becky and Kassi both along. They are great navigators! As we were leaving the hotel, the desk clerk told us that if we wanted to go out to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island (which we had tickets for), to ride a certain subway line to the end, and then board the ferry that was right there.

We told Bev she looked like a pole dancer holding onto the pole in the subway car, so she busted out some moves!

We missed the ferry by just a couple of minutes, so we decided to walk around Battery Park. There were lots of interesting people in this park!

We made it on the ferry, and we are riding along, we see the Statue of Liberty.....and then we pass right by! Well, we were on the Stanton Island Ferry, not the ferry to the statue and Ellis Island....so we ended up in New Jersey! Too funny! We had walked right by the other ferry in Battery Park.

After our ferry ride, we headed to Ground Zero. What a humbling site. It is so hard to comprehend what it must have been like on September 11th years ago. As you look around at all the buildings, you can only imagine the panic that must have been being felt. So many lives were lost.....

Back at the subway on the way to China Town. We made the girls pose for this picture....but it does look pretty spooky!

You would never believe all the people and purses in China Town! It was absolutely crazy! Also, you should never have to use a restroom while there....there are none to be found! Most of the ladies in our group bought multiple purses on this day. You should have seen all the wheeling and dealing going on!

After China Town we walked around through SoHo and then through Little Italy. We stopped in Little Italy at a little sidewalk cafe for dinner. It was so much fun, and according to Becky and Carla, it felt just like being in Italy.

After a day of running around, we went to the Broadway show, "Mary Poppins". It was absolutely amazing. If you ever get a chance to see it, do not hesitate to go! We all loved it. Kassi, Kristen, Bev and I went to Mary Poppins, while Jana, Michelle, Carla and Becky went to Lion King. They said Lion King was awesome too.

Before the show started, I took some pictures to show some of the detail inside the theater.

After the show, we got to go on a backstage tour. One of Kristen's friends knows the stage manager at the play, so he took us on the tour. It was amazing to see how they cut all of the grooves in the floor for scenery, the trap doors, the gadgets, etc. It is quite the production to put on such an amazing show.

This is the stage manager backstage showing us some of the props. Notice the penguin in the carriage. In the movie about Mary Poppins, there are penguins dancing around, so the penguin in the carriage is to give notice to that. Notice the little stuffed dog puppet on the cabinet to the left. There were 3 different dog puppets in the show. They are made of real human hair, and the price for the 3 puppets was $100,000. Too crazy!

Even though this picture is sideways, I had to include this picture of the New York Times to honor my newspaperman husband!
